Dock System along the Grand River

Submitted by Brian Doyle, Lansing Resident

My idea is…

“…[to construct] permanent docks along the south side of the Grand River between the Lansing Center and Market. With the construction of purpose-built solid structures, it will bring a sense of permanence to the area and let the region know that Lansing is serious about our waterways! The creation of this space will offer opportunities for public and private enterprises surrounding the busy summer months along the Grand! Encouraging recreational boaters to tie up on the dock and attend a ball game or a LEPFA event that take place in the area. Maybe even just grab a bite to eat downtown. Offering an opportunity for transportation to festivals and destinations all along the Grand.”

My idea contributes to a vibrant community by…

“The Grand River and its tributaries are the lifeblood of greater Lansing. In Lansing alone, the river connects the three main entertainment zones of Old Town, downtown, and REO Town. I envision a future in Lansing where we start utilizing the river as a natural transportation and entertainment network. Travel is possible all the way from Moores Park to Old Town, we just need the infrastructure. By creating this first hub in the heart of downtown Lansing, we will be inviting residents and guest to look at our waterways in a different light.”
