Community Gardening Coalition

Submitted Anonymously by a Lansing Resident

My idea is…

“…a community gardening coalition to plant flowers, beautify, paint and generally clean up unused community spaces. Master gardeners with spare time and interest to lead groups to identify problem areas, develop improvement plans and get to work implementing the plans. Coalition could partner with the Arts Council for outdoor visual public art projects. Coalition could work with city government and neighborhood centers to identify and improve urban blight and homes that are not properly maintained. Volunteer coalition members can volunteer their time to make city improvements and vastly expand their proficiency at gardening, home maintenance and similar skills in the process.”

My idea contributes to a vibrant community by…

“…rehabing abandoned spaces, bringing people downtown, encouraging connections with people from diverse backgrounds, generating pride and ownership of the city and growing appreciation for public art and spaces.”
