Dog Park on the River Trail

Submitted by Derek Erickson, East Lansing Resident

My idea is…

“This project would entail building a dog park near Grand River.  While there are a variety of parks near downtown there are no fenced in facilities which allow dogs to run freely.  This dog park would have one larger fenced in area for larger dogs and one smaller fenced in area for smaller dogs.  A few picnic tables would also be advantageous should the funds allow.”

My idea contributes to a vibrant community by…

“There are multiple benefits in having a dog park in a downtown area.  It brings around individuals who may not venture downtown otherwise.  It also allows individuals to meet other individuals with similar interests allowing for a stronger community.  There are also multiple benefits for the dogs as well including a place for the animals to socialize as well as a safe environment for small dogs.”

  1. I love this idea! We have two small dogs, and one gets very nervous around larger animals. There aren’t a lot of options available for dogs to run and play in Lansing, and there are none that I’m aware of that offer this kind of safe space for our little ones. I love the idea of having this on the river trail, because it provides a scenic backdrop for owners, and will provide a lot of varied stimuli to keep dogs active, engaged and excited! Tables for owners are a great addition too because they provide a space for people to chat and get to know one another as their dogs socialize.
