Murals Under the Shiawassee Street Bridge

Submitted by Chris Pruett, Lansing Resident

My idea is…

“…to work with the City of Lansing and the Lansing Art Gallery to paint murals on the walls under the Shiawassee Street Bridge along the Riverfront. On the east wall, I envision a Lansing-themed mural and on the west wall I would do a Pure Michigan theme. Work on the project would use the talents of area mentally ill and homeless persons. I already have an interested party that would spray the walls white for a clean surface for the artwork.”

My idea contributes to a vibrant community by…

“…showcasing the talents of area mentally ill and homeless individuals. Secondly, these walls are in a highly visible location. Hundreds or, more correctly, thousands of people pass by during the course of a year. Hopefully the murals will have viewers contemplating the history and culture of Lansing and the State of Michigan.”

  1. This is a great idea! Not only does it bring art to the city it draws attention to the homeless and creates awareness that the homeless are people just like us, many with special talents!
